Can I use a small OSM section as a static background in a mobile app?

I'm making a free app for GPS-enabled mobile phones that gives the user some GPS-derived information about the distance he/she has travelled. It doesn't display 'live' map data, but I would like to use a small OSM tile of a local area, rendered as a PNG, simply as a static graphic background to give the app a 'geographical' feel. You could compare my use of the map to using any illustration as a background. I want to be sure that this is OK. I presume I should add the usual acknowledgment.

Is there any problem with this?

Tiles (just in the "standard" style) from openstreetmap.org are available on CC BY-SA 2.0 terms, given you are not actively downloading images (you would need to follow the relevant usage policy if you were), you simply need to follow the attribution guidelines on https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright and the legal FAQ.
