How to install OpenStreetMap for working offline

Question

Hi all,

I'm developing some software which I would use to work with a map offline.
I know that OpenStreetMap data can be used in this way, but I don't know what programs I need to install and how I would need to configure them.

Someone can give me a link or tips about this?

Oh, this wiki page is orphamed, tha means no other wiki page has a link to it ... have to look where we can add wiki links to it.

OSM-in-a-box is just I need it.

And sorry I'm new in OpenStreetMap, can someone tell me how to install and configure this ?

A converter (Java) called 'osm2gis' which imports OSM data and stores the relevant part of it in the database (PostgreSQL/PostGIS) in a geospatial, relational database schema.
A spatial information server with geographic web services (GeoServer), like WMS, Tiling/Caching and WFS (read-only).

Hi,

Well I think the solution to my problem is to install a local map server. Currently I'm working with MapServer, but I don't get to make work with osm file,

I'm downloading the GeoServer, if someone has a link with a little manual to know how to make work osm file with GeoServer, please tell me.
