Hi folks

Before I set up a profile I was very excited to see that opencyclemap had an outdoor layer available to people who had not signed up. I thought it was so good that I decided to sign up and get involved. I have now signed up but can't find anything about outdoor layers.

Update: I have just realised that the outdoors layer is in opencyclemap.org and not openstreetmap.org. Never the less does anyone know if there is such a facility in openstreetmap.org.

Thanks Patrick

Hi Patrick, welcome to OSM! Great that you want to help the project.

OpenCycleMap and the "outdoors" layer of OpenCycleMap are all based on the same OpenStreetMap data. Also the standard map on openstreetmap.org is based on this data. And even more maps/services are based on this data. It is just displayed differently and different aspects/parts of the data are displayed.

So, contribute, update your surroundings and it will (after some days - this depends on the operator of OpenCycleMap) be reflected also in OpenCycleMap and its outdoors style.

There are a couple of layers on openstreetmap.org, the standard, cycle map, transport map and humanitarian, but no outdoor/hiking etc.

All the renders get the data from the same place so it's just up to the people behind it what is show and what is not.

There is a nice table on the wiki showing which renders show/focus on what.
